In view of the horoscope 2021, it is without regrets that we close the dark and difficult pages of the year 2020 to approach the period of Christmas and New Year 2021 with relief, carried by the hope for a more favorable cosmic momentum.

If the astrological aspects, retrograde movements and eclipses of the year 2021 influence each sign of the zodiac differently, it seems interesting to us to analyze the 2021 horoscope under the prism of the major events that will mark this year and affect us more generally, on a collective and individual plan. The most important of these events is undoubtedly the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius of December 21, 2020, which brings us into a new phase which should last several decades, under the influence of the Air element. In a way, from a western astrology point of view, it can be said that the year 2021 truly begins on December 21, 2020 and not January 1, 2021.

Preface to the 2021 horoscope

Let us first recall some notions concerning the Age of Aquarius, then we will approach the symbolic links which exist between the previous Era of Pisces under the prism of Christianity. Before getting into the details of the meaning and consequences of the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in astrology and for the year 2021, we will see that a great equivalent conjunction is perhaps at the origin of the observation of the magi came from the East announced by the Gospel according to Matthew.

But first of all, let's dispel any doubts about a recurring question that can lead to confusion:

Does the great conjunction of December 21, 2020 herald the start of the Age of Aquarius?

No. An astrological era is a period that spans over two millennia. The great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius of December 21, 2020 marks the beginning of an Air triplicity cycle of approximately 200 years, as we will see in the rest of the article. A tempting but inaccurate shortcut is to confuse the Age of Aquarius which has (perhaps) already started with the fact that the great conjunction of 2020 is taking place in the House of Aquarius.

What does the Age of Aquarius mean?

The change in astrological age is induced by the actual movement of the Earth. The progressive shift in the axis of rotation of the Earth is called the precession of the equinoxes. This phenomenon takes place when the fixed point of observation of the sky, the pole star (currently Alpha Ursae Minoris) passes the relay to another star. The duration of a precession of the equinoxes is approximately 25,800 years. Each of the 12 constellations of the zodiac occupies 30° of the celestial vault. The spring equinox point is therefore found for about 2150 years (25800 divided by 12) within the same astrological House before moving on to the next House. The equinox point moves west and goes from one astrological sign to another in the opposite direction of their traditional order. The Age of Aquarius succeeds the Age of Pisces which itself takes over from the Age of Aries.

The Age of Aquarius will therefore begin when the equinox point of spring (or of March, or vernal), will change position, passing from the constellation of Pisces to enter that of Aquarius. Unfortunately, among specialists, whether astronomers or astrologers, there is no consensus that can accurately date the advent of the Age of Aquarius. For this, it would already be necessary to be able to date the beginning of the Age of Pisces which precedes it. However, if this seems to be at the beginning of the Christian era and therefore at the beginning of the Gregorian calendar, it is again impossible to assign a precise date to it.

This is why, while some astrologers believe we can date the start of the Age of Aquarius to December 21, 2020, we prefer not to take this shortcut, which seems inappropriate to us. Since the New Age period of the 70s, the Age of Aquarius has been regularly invoked to announce the development of the individual freed from the shackles of a paternalistic society and the emergence of an avant-garde and universalist progressivism. If many astrologers seem to agree to start the Age of Aquarius towards the end of the 20th century, others are more inclined towards the XXIVth century. The great conjunction of December 21, 2020, since it takes place in the House of Aquarius, at best announces the beginning of a transition to the Age of Aquarius, or, more pragmatically, on the scale of 2 or 3 generations to come, the accentuation of the footprint of the Air element in a world where the now prevalent connected communication tools are profoundly revolutionizing society.

Christianity and the Age of Pisces

The fish is one of the symbols that the early Christians used to represent Jesus Christ or simply as a signature of their faith. They left traces of it in the catacombs of Rome. Among these representations engraved on the walls, we can observe drawings of fish alone or in pairs, accompanied or not by a sea anchor. Sign of change, fertility and abundance in Greco-Roman antiquity, the first Christians appropriated the fish symbol all the more readily as it is a direct reminder of the miraculous fishing related in the Gospels, in beginning of the ministry of Jesus, or the episode of the multiplication of the 5 loaves and the 2 fishes.

However, how can we not mention the change in astrological Age that takes place during the life of Jesus of Nazareth, since it is the passage from the Age of Aries to that of Pisces. Jesus voluntarily sacrifices himself on the cross in order to allow the salvation of souls, until then condemned to limbo. He then takes the place of Abraham's sacrificial lamb, symbol of the Era of Aries which is coming to an end, to open, through his death and resurrection, the Age of Pisces.

Although some believers sometimes find it difficult to accept the pagan origins of the symbols of their faith, it must be remembered that religions are always born on an existing soil (Judaism as regards Christianity and Islam) and in a particular historical and cultural context. In this case, the symbol of the cross is adopted late in the Christian world. The cross, an infamous tool of torture reserved for fugitive slaves, is a shameful object and therefore little unifying in the eyes of the citizens of the Roman Empire, who constitute the base of the first converts of this new religion. It was only from the Middle Ages, finally detached from its original socio-political context, that the cross imposed itself to the point of becoming the dominant visual symbol of Christianity.

What is the date of Christmas?

Who are these Babylonian astrologers-astronomers, the "Magi from the East" of the Gospel according to Matthew, who interpreted an unusual astronomical event, known as the Star of Bethlehem, to be the sign of the birth of a child king, causing the infanticide madness of King Erode in spite of themselves? Over the centuries, the practice of astrology has somehow managed to coexist with Christianity, the belief in reasoned determinism not necessarily being incompatible with the principle of free will. The relegation of astrology to the rank of simple superstition was completed in the course of the nineteenth century, with the triumph of Western science, rational and materialist*. And yet, paradoxically, even the founding father of modern science, Isaac Newton ( 1643-1727), was secretly fond of astrology, sacred geometry and alchemy.

The identification of the celestial event observed by the three wise men would make it possible conveniently to attribute a precise date to the birth of Jesus. If the existence of Jesus of Nazareth is rather consensus among historians, the date and year of his birth are in fact unknown. Regarding his year of birth, it would be between the year 7 and the year 2 BC. As for his day of birth, the date of December 25 was chosen in the 4th century to be superimposed on the pagan festivals of the winter solstice. Likewise, his death and resurrection correspond to the feasts of the Jewish Passover and the spring solstice. The purpose of the Christian Passover is therefore, also in this case, to replace the pre-Christian spring festivals.

Great conjunction and date of birth of Jesus

Some specialists believe that the observation of the three wise men could correspond to the explosion of a super nova or the passage of a comet, such as Halley's comet (visible in 12 and 11 BC). But other hypotheses are possible and among them the possibility that it is in reality a great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn. Indeed, on June 17 of the year 2 BC, a Jupiter-Saturn conjunction could have been observed from Babylon. By separating again on the horizon, the two planets would then have indicated the direction of Bethlehem, towards the west. June 17 of the year 2 BC is therefore a credible date for all those who would like to associate the birth of Jesus with a cosmic event at the height of his extraordinary destiny in the history of humanity.

Horoscope 2021: a year under the influence of Jupiter and Saturn

Before analyzing the influence of the great conjunction of December 21, 2020 on the course of the year 2021 and how it will influence the 12 signs of astrology throughout the year, let's briefly go back to the definition of a conjunction:

What does a conjunction mean in astrology?

A conjunction signals the fusion of the qualities of the two planets involved and the beginning of a cycle for the zodiacal house in which this astrological aspect occurs. The conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn occur every 20 years. This is the moment when a terrestrial observer can see these two planets overlapping in the night sky, giving the impression that they have come closer. Of course, their real mutual distance remains immense (734 million km). When this phenomenon of superposition is at its peak, that is to say that the planets Jupiter and Saturn are more or less zero degrees apart from each other, we then speak of a great conjunction.

Role of the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn for 2021

The conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn take place according to a triangular pattern called triplicity which moves backwards on the astrological chart and therefore according to the natural order of the zodiacal houses. If the previous conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn were in Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn (triplicity of Earth), that of December 21, 2020, commonly called "Christmas star" because of its proximity to December 25 2020, starts an Air triplicity cycle in Aquarius (which will also concern Gemini and Libra). It was not until the 2200s that the Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) put an end to this cycle governed by the Air element.

According to the horoscope 2021, the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn sets the tone for the year 2021 and can be considered as the major astrological event of the western horoscope of the end of the year 2020. Indeed, it is about the conclusion of triplicities of approximately 200 years governed by the energy Earth and the beginning of a new cycle of triplicity, dominated this time by the Air energy.

The previous cycle of triplicity, dominated by the Earth element, took place as the industrial revolution and nascent capitalism took off in the world. Money was then placed at the center of human concerns. It was a time of construction, mass production, urbanization and the beginning of rural desertification for the benefit of big cities. With the start of this new succession of conjunctions under the influence of Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius), it is now high technology and communication that are settling over time at the center of our existence.

The conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn symbolizes the meeting of the respective forces of these two planets. If Saturn is often correlated with notions of toil, struggle, discipline, restriction, blocking or even pessimism, Jupiter is considered more as a celestial body with beneficial influences representing luck, money, growth, expansion, new opportunities, prosperity and discovery.

The fixed mode of Air triplicity in Aquarius

Finally, note that the cycle of a triplicity, in addition to being associated with one of the 4 elements, is subject to 3 modes. Thus, for Air signs, triplicity in Aquarius is in fixed mode, triplicity in Gemini is in mutable mode and triplicity in Libra is in cardinal mode. Fixed mode suggests full expansion of the element. As a result, the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius, although it carries with it the promises of a new world, still remains marked by very strong conservative movements and a tenacious resistance to societal changes which are however inevitable. If the wind of renewal is blowing well, many will refuse to accept this reality to take refuge in the outdated slogans of a fantasized past.

World Astrology 2021

What are the consequences in mundane astrology of the great Jupiter Saturn conjunction of December 21, 2020?

As we have just seen, the major conjunction aspect of Jupiter and Saturn of December 21, 2020 infuses at the beginning of this cycle and for the next 200 years a new civilizational impetus. Under the governance of energies specific to the Air element of Aquarius, the emergence of a more responsible, more informed and less elitist world is possible in the medium term, even if this must go through a period of friction within a humanity in the midst of a crisis of collective consciousness. Faced with the challenges that the carelessness of their parents and grandparents caused, the younger generations are determined to tackle head-on the technological, health and environmental challenges that will ensure a better future for our planet. Activism, political organization and the creation of new media will be at the source of this profound change in society, which will see the rapid emergence of leaders around the world as young as they are talented, capable of proposing a more humanistic and responsible project of common life.

According to the horoscope 2021, this development will go first and foremost through the gradual and global transformation of the electoral systems and through a major political restructuring. The acceleration of learning and the dissemination of knowledge enabled by the Internet is exalted by the innovative force inherent in Aquarius. If the individual gains autonomy and becomes his own voice, authoritarian governments will not hesitate to seize every opportunity to misuse technology in order to control and monitor their citizens. Fortunately, not all independent media and alternative sources of information can be gagged, providing oppressed peoples with the tools that will enable them to emancipate themselves from their most corrupt rulers.

Alas, no political decision, no matter how fair, will be able to fully repair the damage committed during the previous cycle without avoiding a temporary decline in quality of life, which will only begin to reverse from 2024. Until then, this announced transitional phase carries the promise of a new dawn. This period of apparent paralysis of society is in fact conducive to a lasting individual and collective questioning of the systems of consumption and production inherited from the cycle of Earth triplicity which is coming to an end. Just as in Feng Shui good air circulation is the key to positive energies and home hygiene, the Air triplicity of the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn carries with it the promise of New Year 2021 which preludes the spiritual and physical healing of a tried humanity.
